Press Statement on the Removal of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Kerim Han — S.O.S.der

We condemn every form of political interference capable of weakening international justice mechanisms, and we demand that all allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Gaza genocide be investigated independently, impartially and transparently.

The independence of international law and of the mechanisms of justice is one of the most important safeguards of humanity's common conscience. For this reason, we share the grave concern created in international public opinion by the developments regarding the removal from office of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Kerim Han.

The process that followed Prosecutor Kerim Han's request for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, has — because of its timing — raised serious questions about the independence of the international justice system.

As S.O.S DER, we underline that international judicial institutions must act independently of political pressure, of the influence of states and of the balance of power.

In the face of the genocide taking place in Gaza, the Israeli government first and foremost, and all states complicit in the crime of genocide, must be accountable before international law. No leader, no government and no state is above the law.

As S.O.S DER, we condemn every kind of political interference that could weaken international justice mechanisms, and every practice that casts a shadow over the impartiality of justice.

As S.O.S DER, which has filed numerous criminal complaints concerning Turkish-Israeli dual citizens who took part in war crimes in Gaza, our call is clear: all allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Gaza genocide must be investigated independently, impartially and transparently; and those responsible must be held accountable before international law, regardless of who they are.

Justice must be a universal principle that gives confidence to victims, not one that protects the powerful.
