Following Israel's attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, jurists — including our association's lawyer Att. Emrah Kılıç — filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The attack that Israel launched in international waters against the Global Sumud Flotilla, which had set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, became the subject of legal proceedings. A group of jurists, including our association's lawyer Att. Emrah Kılıç, filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The flotilla, formed with the participation of roughly 400 activists from 45 countries, was stopped on 18 May in the international waters of the Mediterranean by Israeli military forces. The activists, including 74 Turkish citizens, were detained and taken to Israel.
The complaint emphasised that these acts, carried out in international waters and on vessels flying the Turkish flag, violate both international law and the Turkish Penal Code; it demanded that those responsible be prosecuted for the relevant offences, foremost among them "deprivation of liberty" and "aggravated robbery".
As S.O.S.der, we reiterate our call for accountability against the obstruction of humanitarian aid and unlawful practices targeting civilians, and we share with the public that we will follow the process closely.
